Is Blogging Still Relevant?

Is blogging still relevant? Does any read blogs anymore? <<< The age-old questions that seem to pop up every New Year.  And it makes sense why. Whether you practice New Year’s resolutions or not every January makes you rethink things in life and in business—aka. It probably will make you rethink what your content strategy for your business is going to be for the New Year.

But the good news is that you’re in the right place. If you’ve ever wanted to consider blogging for your business but haven’t known whether it’s worth it or not—in this blog post I’m going to answer the question of whether or not is blogging still relevant.

Is blogging still relevant?

The best way to answer this is by asking if Google is still relevant. <<< Which I think the answer to that question is pretty obviously YES!

As far as I’m concerned as long as people are searching for solutions to their problems on Google blogging is still relevant. BUT don’t just take my word for it let’s look at the data.

70% of people prefer learning about a business via an article (aka. blog) than ads. This really makes a lot of sense if you think about how many times a day we see annoying ads on social media that we don’t really care about. I mean…yes…ads can be helpful if done right BUT if you’re looking for a particular solution to a specific problem it makes sense that you’d want to just go read an article.

Getting the traffic to your website is hard. Once you’ve got a decent amount of eyeballs viewing your website then it’s easy to adjust things on your website to increase conversion. BUT if you’ve got only a handful of people viewing your website then it’s going to be harder to adjust things because your problem might just simply be that you don’t have enough traffic on your website.

Blogging can help increase your website traffic by 55%. <<< This should also lead to more ideal client leads if your website is designed to convert.

Does anyone read blogs anymore?

Yes, people do STILL read blogs, 77% statistically. BUT the caveat is that 73% of people skim-read blogs. <<< That’s why it’s super important to make sure that your blogs are easy to skim-read. Really this applies to ALL content you create for your business.

You can ake your blog easier to read by using text hierarchy—which is better for your website SEO too. Making sure to use different Htags throughout your blog posts and break up your paragraphs so they’re not super long can help with this. You can also include imagery throughout if this can help you explain something in your blog posts.

Why Your Website Needs to be Skimmable

How often should I blog for my business?

As often as you can consistently and as long as the blogs are high-quality. <<< For you this might look like once per month (which I would say is the bare minimum frequency you should do) or it might look like 3x per week. You just need to make sure that whatever frequency you do decide on is realistic for you to keep up.

When in doubt start by setting a goal to blog once per month and see how it goes. If you find that you like blogging for your business and have to bandwidth to increase frequency then try 2x per week. And so on and so forth.

I will say that blogging multiple times per week is probably going to cause you to burn out—so I wouldn’t recommend writing and publishing more than one blog post per week unless you’ve got team members who can help you with it.
