Don’t get me wrong—it’s very important to hire a designer to build your website. BUT investing in a website isn’t cheap—or at least it shouldn’t be. You need to invest at the right time or it could be the wrong decision for your business.

Why You Shouldn’t Hire a Designer to Build Your Website

Even 6-Figure Business Owners Have to Roll Up Their Sleeves & Edit Their Website

There’s always going to be a time and a place when you’re going to have to edit your website yourself. Even if you’re a multi-6-figure business owner. <<< And yes—I’ve seen this happen. Now obviously the more revenue you’ve got coming into your business the more you can hire out website design. BUT you’re still going to have it yourself some of the time.

Your Offers are Changing Too Often Because You’re Newer in Business

If your business is new-ish (less than 2 years old) or you’re still refining your services and products constantly you need to wait to hire a designer to build your website. If you invest in a website before you have your offers 80% solidified you’re going to end up having to redesign your website again a month later because your offers have changed. <<< This is why you need to confidently be able to edit your website yourself.

You’re Not Ready to Give Up Full Design Control Yet

Honestly, I think ^^^ this is one of the most common reasons why someone wouldn’t want to hire a designer. And my inner #enneagram8 is nodding in respect. Not wanting to give up control of your website is normal and sometimes for the better. You understand your business better than anyone else—so in the early days especially, it’s can be very beneficial to design your website yourself.

Working With a Website Designer is an Investment

Hiring a designer to build your website should be an investment. AND it should cost more than $50 on Fivver. <<< If you want quality strategic work done anyway. Hiring someone off of Fivver to do a quick fix on your website is one thing. But paying someone on the cheap just for the sake of hiring someone to build your website doesn’t make any sense. If you can’t afford to invest in a 5k+ website—yet—that’s ok. But that means it’s time for you to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Launching Your Website Needs to Happen ASAP

If you haven’t planned ahead and booked your website design at least 2 months in advance—you’re not ready to hire a designer yet. Not only are most designer’s booked out a few months out. But you also need to plan ahead and get your website content ready for the new design. And expecting your designer to move the moon and stars, rushing to build out your website quickly is going to turn into a bad investment faster than you can say website.

You Can Only Afford to Invest in a Website Designer But Nothing Else

Your website is only one piece of the website puzzle. If you’re going to invest in a custom website you should also most likely be investing in hiring a copywriter, brand photographer, and brand strategist. Your website is like a house and if you don’t have a solid foundation for your website to stand on your investment isn’t going to get you the same results it would if you invested in those other three things too.

What to Do Instead of Hiring a Designer to Build Your Website

Purchase a Strategic Website Template

Just because it isn’t the right time to hire a designer doesn’t mean that you have to build your starting from a blank page. I highly recommend starting with a strategically designed website template so that you can confidently launch your new website fast. Without having to hire a designer to get the job done.
