How Much Does it Cost to Hire a Website Designer? <<< Good question. But unfortunately when it comes to hiring a website designer—pricing is literally all over the map.
Now I’ve talked before about how to design a Showit website on any budget—AND I personally recommend using website templates for your business…
BUT that being said this is a time and a place to hire a website designer. (Here are some reasons why you may not want to).
That’s why in this blog I’m going over how much it costs to hire a website designer.
Variables that will affect how much it costs to hire a web designer
The website builder you need to use for your website
There are a LOT of website builders out there—the most commonly used in the creative entrepreneur space are Showit, Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, and WordPress.
BUT which one you need for YOUR website will make a difference on pricing quite a bit. Wix tends to be on the cheaper end of the spectrum, Showit, Shopify and Squarespace land somewhere in the middle of the pack and WordPress is usually the most expensive. <<< BUT that’s just from what I’ve seen and it can vary dramatically.
Why I Switched from Squarespace to Showit for My Website
Timeline of the website design project
It used to be standard for a website design project to take around 6 months. And some agencies still use this type of timeline for projects. But if you’re working with a solo website designer or a small team you’ll generally see shorter timelines.
Generally speaking the quicker the timeline the more it’ll cost to hire a website designer. BUT again this is variable.
Examples of website design project timelines:
- VIP Design Days—This may be a whole 6+ page website in one day or it could be just a refresh or a few page sections. The benefit of this type of service is the ultra-fast timeline.
- 1, 2 or 4-Week Websites—This may be a custom website or it could be a template customization. These are the most common timelines when working with a solar designer or small team.
- No Set Timeline—This is the traditional timeline for website design projects. This can mean your website could take anywhere from one month to twelve to complete.
Complexity of website integrations
If you’ve got a quote-unquote more “basic” website because you’re a service provider, your website will be less complex from an integrations standpoint. Which can help with keeping the cost of hiring a website designer lower.
BUT on the other hand, if you need lots of integrations, i.e. e-commerce, course hosting connection, membership, etc., then you’re going to look at a higher price pointe. It will also most likely extend the timeline of your website design project.
Experience of the website designer you want to hire
Generally speaking, a newer designer is going to charge less than a website designer with 10+ years of experience. BUT the structure of said designer’s business will also make a difference in the price of your website design project. Agencies generally charge more than a solo designer or small team.
The average cost to hire a website designer
The costs to hire a website designer vary greatly but in general, these are the prices I usually see:
- Website in a Day (usually started from a template but not always): $700-3500
- 1, 2 or 4-Week Website (could be a template customization or custom design): $1200-5500
- No Set Timeline (most likely a custom design): $3500-10,000+
