It’s very common to see creative entrepreneurs in Facebook groups. As a Showit designer, I’m in quite a few Facebook groups that are related to business, website design and Showit. As you might already know those types of groups get tons of questions each day. But there are two questions that I wish would never get asked in Facebook groups. It seems like I see one or both of these questions asked at least once a week, if not more often, and it drives me crazy.
2 Questions Creative Entrepreneurs Should Never Ask in Facebook Groups
Never Ask for Advice on Your Logo & Branding
You should never ask for feedback on your logo inside of a group, especially if you’re working with a designer. The odds are pretty high that a lot of people in the group aren’t your ideal client. That means you’re getting “bad advice” from people who aren’t even going to buy what you’re selling.
The feedback will also only be based on the look of your brand instead of whether the design is based on strategy or not. This is the same reason why you shouldn’t ask your friends and family for logo advice.
Never Ask Which Platform You Should Use for Your Website
You should also never ask for advice on which website builder to use because either:
- A) Everyone will tell you to use WordPress since its the “best” platform available
- B) They’ll simply tell you which one they used to build their website
I’ll give you an example of how this can lead to a bad decision
Let’s pretend that you’re a photographer who has no intentions of selling any products from your website, or a very minimal amount of products, 10 or less.
Now let’s say that you asked a group “Which platform should I use to design my website?” and everyone said Shopify. Shopify is an e-commerce-based platform so, in reality, 99.999% of photographers wouldn’t need to use it and Showit would be a much better option.
By crowdsourcing the answer to either of these questions you’re going to end up with problems in the long run.
